Date : 25th Sept 2010

Venue : Sg. Penchala

In conjuction with World River Day 2010, Global Environment Centre (GEC) with collaboration of Malaysian Country Water Patrnership (MyCWP) organized Sungai Penchala Preservation Programme which took place in Taman Rimba Kiara Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI).

Corporatively supporting the programme are Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Navozymes Sdn Bhd.The programme was officially launched by Dato' Ir Ahmad Husaini bin Sulaiman,DID Director General.

According to GEC Director Faizal Parish, the programme was the first to be organized on the venue to celebrate World River Day 2010 and hoping that the river state will improve significantly in 5 years.

Furthermore, 97 percent of river water from Sungai Penchala flows into TTDI area which is the main water supply source for household and it is polluted badly that it cannot even be processed for drinking water. To preserve Sungai Penchala, we need to exposed and educate the community so that there will be enlightenment among theirselves and kept for future generations.

Dr K. Kalithasan, the programme co-ordinator hoped that such programme will make the river known to local community and hoping that they will play their role to preserve and cherish our very own Sungai Penchala.
